FREE and EASY ways to unlock NEC 525 515

To get you NEC 525 or 515 unlocked, please call NEC Customer support at 1-800-637-5917 and select option 3 (or go to their website www.nechdm.com/contactus.asp and request the same).
Explain to the tech. support what needs to be done to your NEC and provide them with IMEI number for your unit.
They will immediately provide you with the unlocking code as well as the instructions!

IF YOU HAVE A USB CABLE TO CONNECT YOUR UNIT TO PC (WINDOWS) YOU CAN UNLOCK YOU NEC EASILY!
Check this site www.alibutt.com/index.php?p+126#comments for NECTALK as well as the USB drivers (if you don't have the original CD with synchronization software), a program that allows you to unlock your unit.
1. Unzip the NECTALK (go to www.3spades.net/nectalk.zip and unzip the NECTALK file) and install USB drivers (www.nechdm.com/synch.asp and click Install USB Drivers for a zip file).
2. Create NEC folder and drag the NECTALK files (should be 2 of them) to that new folder
3. Connect your phone via USB cable to computer
4. In START menu go to RUN and type COMMAND (Win 98, Mi) or CMD (Win 2000 or XP ): A black window (DOS mode) should pop up with C:\ _
5. Type cd NEC and press ENTER. You should get C:\NEC>
6. Now, connect your phone (make sure the unit is on) via USB cable to computer and type nectalk -pt unlock. The program should check several ports (Trying port 1, 2, 3...) to locate your phone. Once detected, the program will display found PTE code: 0079.
7. Your phone is unlocked!!!!
8. Disconnect the usb cable and insert your SIM card. The phone should display previously registered/locked on carrier with SOS mode for several seconds (AT&T for US customers). After that your service providers name should appear on the screen's upper portion (together with date, time, etc) with fully functioning phone!

I've been using the nectalk program for a while now and works great.

The quickest way to unlock your NEC 525 or 515 is to call NEC Customer support at 1-800-637-5917 and explain to a representative that you need to have your NEC unlocked. You may try the same request on their website www.nechdm.com/contactus.asp.
Be ready to provide the IMEI number for your unit, which is located on the back behind the battery.
Should an unlock code be found, you will be provided with it as well as walked through the whole unlocking process!
No luck there?
Well, you will be given an option to send your phone with pre-paid return envelope/box to:

2. Create a new folder in Windows Explorer, Rename it NEC and drag the NECTALK files (should be 2 of them) to that folder.
3. Now, go to www.nechdm.com/synch.asp and click Install USB Drivers for a zip file. Once unzipped, the file will have three folders: UnInst, Win98 and WinXP_2000. Choose the appropriate folder for your OS.
4. Connect your phone (make sure it is ON) via USB cable to computer. In Win 2000 or XP the Found New Device balloon would appear. Click on that and follow with the driver installation instructions. If nothing happens or you are running Windows 98, go to START, CONTROL PANNEL, SYSTEM, Hardware, Divice Manager. Right-click the uppermost icon with a picture of computer select Scan for Hardware Changes. After the scan, your phone should be shown as unknown device. Right-click that device, choose Update Driver and you will taken to Hardware Update Wizard. Choose Install from a list or specific location, click Next. Mark the box Include this location in the search and Browse to the appropriate folder where the Win98 or WinXP_2000 is located. Click Next to begin installation. The Wizard will inform at the end if the installation was successful. If the driver was installed and the device (NEC 515/525) is functioning perfectly, continue to the next step.

unlocker works great,
wish to add a few info,
if u cant get to c:\, on start of ms-dos prgrm,
then type cd\ and enter.
u will get the prompt c:\,
now u can get started with other instructions and all will b ok.

also if program auto search and cant find phone (after correct driver installation), then,
check in device drivers (xp users), u will see, modem ports, double click on the nec modem driver found,
go to the port settings tab,
go to advanced port settings,
change to other port (prefarably com1)
o.k
then run program as instructed.
