Device won't die but LGs are a bit tricky and in general require unlocked bootloader for custom recovery to work. I recently tried this on old LG K8 (customer wanted to root the phone) and as soon as i flashed TWRP with memory tool phone asked me for decryption password on boot. The problem was, that phone did not ask for password before and there was no password set before. I wiped the phone - was clean, no password set, wrote TWRP with memory tool again and again it asked me for decryption password.

You may try it yourself but backup the data first.
