Nokia 6133 Tmobile - Has anyone got it unlocked? - GSM-Forum

I didn't realize that the Nokia 6133 (BB5) cannot be unlocked the usual way as it belongs to the BB5 family. Does this mean that TMobile would be able to unlock them or is it beyond their ability as well?

I am with Cingular and just bought the Nokia 6133...:

T-Mobile can unlock their phones. They will give you the unlock code if you qualify (whatever their requirements are).

you should be able to buy an unlocked one on ebay - thats what i want to do...

but does anyone know whats the difference between nokia 6133 and 6131?

i have checked the technical specs and so far they seem to be identical except for its physical appearance

I have been avle to get a few t-mobile phones that have been unlocked already, does anyone know how it is done?

actually if someone gets an unlocked one and makes a copy of the boot loader and PDS maybe it might be able to help unlock this one??... anyone got it done or have any suggestions?

Well just by looking at the tech specs on NOKIA's website you can see that 6133 is missing a few things - no PTT, IrDA and no stereo headphones in the set but as far as I know the SW is the same.

yea it seems so...i've seen some people suggest to flash this one with 6131 's sw...

... but i'm wondering what cost to the phone
the sad thing for people using it from what i've read online is that T-Mobile restricts use of MP3's for ringtones so if anyone is thinking of getting this phone they'd have to convert the mp3's to wma or buy music from T-Mobile

but if it is unlocked

it shouldnt have this problem

I've got a week-old 6131 with T-Mobile UK and can't see any restrictions at all. There was no PTT option in the menu as apparently my provider doesn't have that service for prepayment.

One way or the oher if there are any SW limitations you can flash the phone using a USB cable (I use a look-alike CA-42), Phoenix and a debranded firmware package because locks don't have any impact on SW capabilities. Just make sure that you backup all content (java, images, themes, tones etc.) as after DIY flashing with Phoenix no CNT package is writen (at least I can't get it done).
