NOKIA 6680 / 6630 is really not possible to unlock?? - GSM-Forum

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post here. It seems like an appropriate place to ask where I can get the Nokia 6630 and 6680 phones unlocked?

Now incase you're going to start referring me to previous posts, I have done my research and everyone I speak to about this are all telling me that it is not possible at the moment. However having done a search on ebay I have seen numerous 6630 / 6680's unlocked going for sale.. How is this possible? I have asked around from these sellers and still have not had the answer I am looking for. I am even willing to pay the going rate to get these phones unlocked but no-one can do it!!

So please if anyone which knows more about this can shed some light on it..?

Most of the BB5 handsets being sold on eBay were never locked in the first place. Those phones are basically network independent and can be used with any SIM card, and on any compatible network. Nokia sells them, presumably because they reap a larger profit per unit sold, and the customer bears the full cost of the handset.

The networks sell phones to their customers at a significant discount, the price for receiving that discount is that you can only use the phone on their network, or at least with their SIM. Right now, only the individual network can unlock those phones...and only the phones on their network. From what people have written, the cost the network charges is about the same as if you had just bought an openline phone to start with.

So basically, if someone on eBay says they have an unlocked N6680, it's never been OEM'd to a network, and hence never locked. If someone says they have a locked 6680, and that you can just have it unlocked...they are ripping you off, big time.
