C60 Firmware changelog

Hi,

I noticed that a newer firmware version of c60, v.25, is out...
I actually have v.23, isn't there a sort of changelog with the added/corrected/removed features?

Thanks!

The new features were mentioned in this thread: http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=139678.

From what I can see, V25 offers WAV recording, playback and ringtones. The thread mentioned auto keylock, but I haven't gone looking for it.

I flashed my C60 to V25 yesterday. All is well. My procedure was:
  • Upload Java bug V2 and execute twice to patch bootcore
  • Verify that Freia V9.162 could communicate (V10 apparently has some probs)
  • Backup battery parameters (not sure if absolutly required)
  • Run updater
  • Direct Unlock No Map Use Original IMEI
  • Restore battery parameters
  • Restart phone, all ok.

All my ringtones were intact, as were my pictures and Tetris game I'm writing

I don't need to unlock it or use Java bug, so I just have to flash it with winswup right?

Thanks!

I can't answer that question, because I don't know.

My observations, however, indicate that a C60 "out of the box" won't talk to Freia. I don't know what protocol winswup uses to reflash the phone, but it is possible it's the same as Freia.

I'm hoping that some of the Siemens experts will jump in and explain all this, especially how winswup works.

BUT: in your case, why not simple try winswup and see if the phone can be reflashed? If it can, great! Post the result here. If it can't, you'll have to run the java bug.

You may need to unlock the phone using Freia in order to correct the IMEI. From what I've gathered from lurking around this board, there's two IMEI numbers in the phone: one burned into a one-time flash, and one in the EEPROM. If the two don't match, the phone goes Bzzzzt at poweron and shuts down. What Direct Unlock Use Original IMEI does is copy the permanent IMEI to the EEPROM's IMEI.

It appears that winswup does a lot of the work for you. I err on the side of caution simply because it's my phone and if I nuke it, I'm without a phone until I can save up for another.

For you, the worst case senario is this: you reflash with winswup and the IMEI's don't match, so the phone won't start. Since you don't have a patched bootcore, you can't use Freia unless you cut the test point. Reading the threads of people (experts!) who have cut the test point and broken a varistor in the process seem to be legion. So, you run the risk of a fried phone.

Hit it with the java bug, ensure Freia can talk to the phone and run winswup. If it all turns to putty, you can at least get in there with Freia and fix things up.

If you need any of the programs mentioned (Freia, java bug, ...) email me and I'll send them to you.

Well, I think it's possible and riskless to flash phone with winswup... I flashed mine 3 times: 12 -> 18 -> 20 -> 23 always with that update tool. I never had problems...
I heard that after cutting testpoint there could be a problem using winswup but my phone is flashed correctly even if cutted...

And you don't have a patched bootcore? Cool! Thanks for the info!

My bootcore isn't patched... I just cutted testpoint, but I think that wasn't necessary to use winswup...
