I faced the problem of a dropped hard drive, so I feel you.
First of all, check your OneDrive or iCloud, depending on what you are using, Windows or Mac. Sometimes files are automatically backed up there.
As your HD was damaged physically, I still recommend contacting data recovery experts.
And one more tip. Even if you are lucky enough to recover the lost data with the software on your own, my advice is to buy a new hard drive or replace the damaged one if it’s still under the warranty, because it’s no longer a reliable backup source.
Hope it helps and good luck!
