US GSM Phones tested in other countries

If I want to test an unlocked dual band mobile from the US (actually a J2ME application running on it) in other countries, obviously there may not be a carrier who provides the exact same frequencies. So, is there a way how I can setup my own lab in that country where I will buy and use some special hardware and/or software emulator that will provide a test infrastructure with the frequencies as we configure ? The problem is the J2ME app that I am testing needs the carrier because it receives SMS and makes calls.

It depends on what you need to do - most GSM test sets will simulate a network and let you set up calls - but they are designed to verify that the hardware is working properly, and dont' generally simulate every aspect of the network. They are also quite expensive.

I guess the handset you're using is 850/1900? The simplest method would be see if they also make the same phone ina 900/1800 or 900/1800/1900 version, and use that.
