That makes sense. But where can I start learning how to use the oscilloscope?

Any videos on YouTube?

Personally I get around using cheap *** multi meter (25$-ish aneng an8009) and 300$ hantek scope.

I use multi meter for tracking shorts, reading diode readings and measuring resistance to ground (Diode, continuity and resistance is what I use on it.),

When I have some phone, laptop or something that uses I2C or SPI I check clokc and data pins on my scope to look at integrity of signal.

Sometimes when I do reverse engineering i use logic analyzer, but that is not often.

So basically oscilloscope is just glorified multi meter if you look from basic stand point, good side is that it shows voltage change per time, that can help you check quick shorts on power supplies or something like that.

Wink

Till 2006 I have used an 10MHz old romanian analog oscilloscope.
After, I have used an Philips PM3065 and a Philips PM3370b till 2016.
Since 2016 I am using another combiscope but an Hameg HM1508-2.
Regarding the use of an oscilloscope, it depends by what you know and
what other things you do with it.
For more than 8 years I use only professional lab tools instead of chinese tools.
Best Regards!

An oscilloscope is nice to have but they don't come cheap. A multimeter should be all you need and a brain.

Portable USB oscilloscope probe can be used. Not sure about the best results but it’s a good start without spending too much.

The point here is: do you know how to use an oscilloscope?

If you have a lab and do any kind of electronic repairing then is definitely useful. To start with, buy a cheaper solution as gsmphonerepair is suggesting and start learning how to use it. Buy a good book and experience a lot.
