Chip substitutes

There was a thread here in the past which dealt with tested replacement BGA's, but seems to have been deleted.

Well I am starting it up again and here is the first question.

Anyone try to substitute an AMD 216-0752001 with a 216-0752003 ?
Both are RS880M chips. Or does anyone know the difference between these 2 BGA's?

I will answer my own question direct from the RS880M data sheet

The RS880MC is a special variant of the RS880M that does Not support the following features:
• External graphics.
• DisplayPorts.
• TMDS interface.
• Memory interface for local frame buffer.
• Decoding of High-Definition (HD) video contents by the Unified Video Decoder (UVD), which has limited capabilities on the RS880MC.
The maximum clock speed of its graphics engine is also lower
Also Integrated HD Audio Controller and Codec is not supported

The 216-0752001 is an RS880M and the 216-0752003 is an RS880MC. So I suppose you could replace the 0752003 with the 0752001, but not the other way around.

Have you replaced this chip? and did it worked?
I have a Sony Vaio that have the same chip and I thinking on replace this chip because reballing din't help.

Haven't tried since not direct replacement.
