G86-730-A2 chip

I have several HP DV9500 notebooks that have problems with the GPU. The GPU is a nvidea G86-730-A2. I have to replace the chip and that's when the problems start.

I cannot get any working chip. I ordered from two sellers on ebay and i ordered directly from a chinese electronics wholesale. All the same problem.

The problem is that when i power on the notebook, the post screen appears but has big vertical bars with coloured stripes. After a few seconds the notebook switches off.

When i reflow the original chip back on the board is works fine. However the original chip is not reliable so it has to be replaced. I have 3 notebooks i tested this on so it is not a faulty replacement of the chip.

Can someone tell me what the problem can be. Are there different versions of this chip? (g86M or ?).

Can someone give me a good seller for this chip.

No, they are not bad, they are incompatible. I have 15 pcs. from 3 different sellers that all do exactly the same. Impossible!

There must be an explanation.

I agree that many bga's that are sold on ebay are bad. But do you think it is possible that 15 chips from 3 different sellers have exactly the same problem?

The reason why i replace them is because i know nvidea chips fail. But they fail in many different ways. (no screen, coloured dots, coloured stripes, no hdmi)

But i cannot believe that this the problem. I think it might has to do with the version. (i.e for pc vid. card or for notebook)

How do you solve this? I don't want to re-use the original chip. I have to many experience with nVidea gpu's that are bad.

Wow, certainly an issue, but let me clue everyone in on what happens in the used chip market.

A big wholesaler will buy a large batch of defects, either wrong markings or bad lot from the motherboard assembly house. Then that gets distributed in smaller quanities to many suppliers. Then the market gets flooded with all these bad chips.

It's ashame for us, but this is not an uncommon problem. even reliable sources get stuck with bad product. They don't throw them out they sell them hoping they will sit in someones inventory and never get used. This is the number one worst problem in our business. getting good product.

Now. Monitron. Find some G86-731-A2 chips with 10 or 11 date code. They should be factory fresh. And try to stick with Taiwan and stay away from Hong Kong and mainland china suppliers.

Bekim,
First pic looks like bad LCD or cable, but I know it isn't. Second pic is definetly video, but maybe video RAM not GPU. Tough call. Could be bad traces? Gut says its not the GPU if you replaced it with same results. But who knows, maybe same bad batch of chips. Buying from China is a real gamble.
