How to update 3GS without upgrading the baseband

no it just wouldnt do the update, i tried 30 seconds, 33 seconds, 35 seconds etc etc etc in the end i tried to revert back to 3.2.1 using shsh blobs it froze at 99% of the restore progress bar, in the end i applied the 4.1 firmware, and then jailbroke it,

no matter what i did following these instructions and/or videos i couldnt get it to work it always came up in recovery mode (even after kicking out of recovery mode using tiny or ire or irecovery command line)

just a bad luck. you know i have done 7 iphones.using this way....

you always run a risk when trying these things, i have been very sucessfull 99.9% of the time when it comes to mine or friends/family iphones, this was a bad egg

Not yet, because flashing process change, errors out if LLB completely removed. I think can work with some changes, for 4G you can use tinyumbrella. For 3GS i have made small script, nothing major,...but seems to make things easier for manual unplug method, so far have used this when no other option is available to great success, 5+ handsets working old baseband

By the way the newest redsn0w 0.9.6B2 is out which supports loading custom IPSW from DFU mode, which means you can upgrade a handset that has been JB'ed with Limera1n or Greenpois0n to custom 4.1 firmware and keep an unlock,

this is the preferred method, all users should first try this method before the 'cable trick'

for iphone 4 update to 4.1 you can use tinyUmbrella and just start tss server
it will stop itunes before updating baseband with no need for other 'gonzales' tricks

indeed people should stop using this method
once devteam put out pwnage for mac and with it 'special dfu mode' (in this case: loading custom firmware on new bootrom 3gs, no baseband update) there was no need for the ' cable trick'

the method i was using to get the 'special dfu mode' was:

1. from recovery mode - irecovery.exe -p custom_activated_4.1.ipsw
2. from dfu mode run greenpoison
3. finish irecovery - after this you will have dfu mode that will allow custom firmwares
4. load custom_activated_4.1.ipsw with itunes

even after this people still prefer 'cable trick'

Please all membres this forum for this problème this the solution :

For iphone4 you need Umberlla and start tss server and restore your iPhone withe original firmware 4.1, in restore iTunes stop opération in 70% and you Will get iPhone in 4.1 withe old basband (this solution work in Mac/Windows )


And for iphone3GS you need Powbanagetool New version and created custom firmware and restore it withe iTunes

Hi guys,

I have a 3gs firmware 3.0 jailbroken and unlocked.
Will this method work, that is, if I follow this instruction, at the end do I get a new firmware without the need to jailbreak and unlock again?

I also have 4g with 4.1 already installed by itune. I'm guessing the baseband is updated. Can I still jailbreak and unlock? or it's a dead-end?
I found the instructions at iclarified.com but they forewarn that 4g needs to upgrade to 4.1 using TU first. Well I'm already on 4.1 and found out about all of this jailbreak and unlock
