Anybody has a clue what is happening to iTunes in XP which is using 100% CPU and killing the PC slowly?

Any advice

Here is official support document from Apple regarding this issue:
iTunes 10.5 for Windows: May see performance issues
http://brianmorristech.com/?p=762

They give you a long set of instructions, But this simple fix posted around is working for most people, only need few commands (tested by myself):

1) open command prompt in admin mode

2) type the following command
Quote:
netsh winsock reset
3) press enter, restart machine, check CPU usage again. problem should be solved

If you still notice high CPU usage then end the "APSDaemon.exe" process with task manager and check again. If that has fixed it then copy this code into notepad, save as disableAPS.reg file and double click it and reboot machine. This will prevent the deamon from running

Quote:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run]
"APSDaemon"=""
If you are still having problems

Remove all iTunes related components (not just itunes) using control panel, re-install latest version and repeat steps. you can alternatively add an exception to apsdaemon if your security product allows it

This should be the solution. I have NOD32 protected MSAFD TCP/IP, but I have had NOD since ages there, but Apple is making troubles wih these everyday iTunes updates. I will try and I think that it should also work uninstalling NOD32 software...
