Member: 473201 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 1 | My experience with Iphone 3gs, 3g downgrade 4.0.2 to 4.0.1 or 4.0 All of you out there who are looking for the answer whether i can downgrade my 3gs & 3g from 4.0.2 to 4.0 or not I can safely say that it's partially possible This is what happened with me when i tried downgrading a 3g & 3GS 3g I have successfuly downgraded an official Indian Vodafone 3g 4.0.2 to 4.0.1 without any shsh files. Just a simple shift+restore restore 3gs I had a unknown 3gs on 3.0.1 with an 3.0.1 shsh. I wanted it to update it to 4.0.1 for multi tasking feature etc...but was receiving error 3194 so i read here http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f456...0-1-a-1079649/ & I updated to 4.0.2 then downgrade it as mentioned above and did all the host editing etc., somebody has also posted a youtube video on 5~7 page of the above thread for easier execution I tried downgrading using the procedure on the above link from 4.0.2 to 4.0.1 but it didn't work i still was receiving error 3194 then i read this http: The truth about shsh and randomly tried 4.0 since 4.0.1 was failing......and voila!!!!! it worked I successfuly downgraded an initial 3.0.1 upgraded to 4.0.2 back to 4.0 to summarise the downgrade 3g- directly restore to 4.0.1 no other worrying aspect 3gs- upgrade to 4.0.2...try the 1stl ink to restore to 4.0.1 if dat doesn't work...simply restore to 4.0 (Please brothers....upgrade to 4.0.1 only if u have no other option or if u know the risks involved...as it's just not worth all dis mess) |

i simply restored my 3g on 4.0.2 to 4.0.1 via itunes 10, & it restored directly without any tinyumbrella or shsh server.......so i'll suggest u either try on latest itunes........or u can try on another pc Also try DFU mode it helps........... all d best!!!

Member: 1263932 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 181 | Hey guys: iPhones 3G are not protected by firmware upgrade/downgrade. You can always install any version you want. The problem is only that since 4.0 firmware (iTunes 9.2 and higher) iTunes does such a check. So if you want to install a new (or old) firmware through iTunes, you also need shsh backups. But if you don't have it, you can still install the firmware by another tool, like redsn0w. And redsn0w is the preferred method for 3G anyway, as it also does the jailbreak at the same time. |

a) You need shsh backup in any case. So if it worked for you, you simply had shsh backup on Cydia server. Maybe you just didn't know. b) DFU mode is only necessary if iTunes doesn't detect your device otherwise. It doesn't "help" in any way to downgrade.

The only difference is the baseband. There is currently no technique to downgrade the baseband. So once you upgraded to 4.1 with the newer baseband and have shsh backups for 4.0.1, you can downgrade again, but the baseband firmware will remain on the one for 4.1. Baseband for 4.1 is currently not unlockable, that means you cannot use other carriers. So beware of updating to 4.1 which should be released in a few days.

And don't forget to get shsh for 4.0.2 now before you cannot get that anymore in a few days (when 4.1 comes out). Quote:
Or, if you have a jailbroken device and can run Cydia program, check the top lines: If it says 4.0.1 there, then Cydia has 4.0.1 backup and you can always install that firmware on that iPhone whenever you like.

The problem is that after installation of the firmware iTunes wants to install the baseband and the baseband cannot be installed again, because you need special certificates for it. That problem exists since 4.0 firmware. (click thanks button if this helped)
