I recomend that you have installed iTunes 10.4

How to downgrade 5.0 to 4.1 iPhone 3GS :

Step 1: Run Ireb4 , your iPhone 3GS will enter dfu mode.
Step 2: Go to iTunes and flash 4.1 custom firmware ipsw.
Step 3: Jailbreak your iPhone 3GS with Redsn0w, install cydia and the ipad baseband 6.15.
Step 4: Unlock your iPhone 3GS with ultrasn0w

if the iphone don´t have signal, just do the jailbreak again, and reflash the baseband with the ipad 06.15, and is ready

i used this in many iphones 3GS and works perfect

but one problem here 3gs 8GB AT&T 4.3.5 new iphone i restore with version 4.1 orignal firmware at two time with using ireb to dfu mod i got error 1015 at two time the baseband 5.16 software complete and emergency screen with one signal but when i jailbreak with cydia + ipad baseband after jail breaking the baseband was corrupt no wifi no bluetooth no imei no ssid and phone gone to searching i must flash again but same problem any one has solution............

If you get error 1015 in itunes just open tiny ummbrella and click in Exit Recovery
