Update iPhone 4 to iOS 4.2.1 While Preserving Old 01.59 Baseband for Unlock(tested) - GSM-Forum

Run TinyUmbrella tool and save all SHSHs.
If you have baseband 1.59.00, you need to protect it from getting updated. Run TSS server (in TinyUmbrella).
Restore 4.2.1 normally in iTunes.
iTunes will stop with error 1013 or 1015. This means the baseband was not updated and is desired.
Download and install the latest greenpois0n(I tried Greenpois0n RC5).
Put your device into DFU mode and run greenpois0n.
Activate your iPhone in iTunes with an original SIM card OR install cydia with the help of Redsn0w 09.6b6(click on cydia only).
Restore data and sync in iTunes if desired.
if u have orignal sim card then you do not need install cydia via redsnow, just activate with orignal sim card via itunes and Install Cydia with the new Loader on your Springboard or, if it doesn't work, then use redsn0w.

i tried this method on Iphone 4 4.0.2, baseband 1.59 and works 100000% fine..

that is a better option he gave, better than using custome firmware, cust custom and greenpoison not ok, you will end up with a tetherd iphone 4....

thanks for his solution i have been using it for long.
