Problem unbricking HTC One M8 using mmcblk0.img

I extracted mmcblk0.img from a working HTC One M8 to create a bootable SD Card to unbrick another M8. This worked and was able to access the bootloader and recovery, however I am unable to flash a RUU without error using fastboot/RUU or XTC2Clip. I did restore a stock OS via TWRP recovery and everything appeared to be working except sound and microphone.
I am only able to move between OS, bootloader and recovery with the mmcblk0.img SD Card inserted. If the SD Card is removed and any reboot action is done the phone returns to EDL (qualcomm hs-usb qdloader 9008) mode.
Can anyone help to resolve this situation?
