Troubleshooting Use Application Loader to re-install the operating
system and applications on the BlackBerry smartphone.

Overview
To use the Application Loader tool to install BlackBerry Device Software, complete the following steps:
Download and install the latest version of BlackBerry Device Software .
Open the BlackBerry® Desktop Manager.
Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the computer.
If prompted, type your BlackBerry smartphone password and then click OK.
Complete one of the following steps:
If the Application Updates Available window appears, click Update Now. The Application Loader Wizard appears.
If the Application Updates Available window does not appear, double-click the Application Loader icon. The Application Loader Wizard appears.
Click Next.
If prompted, type your BlackBerry smartphone password and click Next.
Note: When the Application Loader Wizard is finished examining the configuration on the BlackBerry smartphone, the Device Application Selection screen appears with a list of applications available for installation. The selected check boxes indicate applications that are already installed on the BlackBerry smartphone.
Select the check box for the BlackBerry Device Software.
Click Next.
If the On the Device Backup screen appears, choose whether to automatically back up the data on the BlackBerry smartphone, and then click Next.
Click Finish to begin loading the BlackBerry Device Software.
Click Close when the software is finished loading.

Description Unclassified error code This error can be caused by a third party application installed on the BlackBerry device.

Troubleshooting


Erase and reload the data on the BlackBerry device.
  1. In BlackBerry Desktop Manager, use the Backup and Restore tool to create a backup file of the data on your BlackBerry device. Warning: The following steps will erase the data on the BlackBerry device.
  2. In BlackBerry Desktop Manager, double-click theApplication Loader icon.
  3. Click Next. The Handheld Application Selection window appears.
  4. Verify that the correct applications are selected, then clickNext.
  5. Click Advanced.
  6. Select the option for Erase all application data and Erase all currently installed applications, then clickNext.
  7. Click Finish. The data on the BlackBerry device is erased, while the operating system and applications are reloaded onto the BlackBerry device.

Troubleshooting
Perform a hard reset on the BlackBerry smartphone.
Follow these steps to perform a hard reset on a BlackBerry smartphone.
  1. Remove the battery cover from the back of the BlackBerry smartphone.
  2. Remove the battery from the BlackBerry smartphone.
  3. Put the battery back into place in the BlackBerry smartphone.
  4. Replace the battery cover.

1)Network----
Handheld displays an X beside the coverage indicator.
Handheld displays GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) or lower case gprs (General Packet Radio Service) as the network status indicator.
User is unable to send or receive messages on the handheld

2)Software----
  • User receives an error code on the handheld.
  • Applications do not appear to be functioning correctly.
  • Desktop Manager is stuck at “working” status when the handheld is connected.
  • Bluetooth is not detected.
3)Hardware----
Handheld display is hard to read. For example, the display shows lines obscuring text.
Keypad is not functioning correctly. For example, keys do not work, the trackwheel is not functioning correctly, or the handheld does not turn on

Reduce the number of calendar appointments synchronized to your BlackBerry device.
  1. In BlackBerry Desktop Manager, double-click the Intellisync icon.
  2. Click Configure PIM. The Handheld Configuration window appears.
  3. In the Handheld Applications list, select Calendar.
  4. Click Configure > Advanced Settings. The Advanced Settings for Calendar window appears.
  5. In the Date Range tab, perform one of the following tasks to reduce the number of calendar appointments synchronized to your BlackBerry device:
    • If you click the Transfer only Future items option, only future calendar appointments will be synchronzied to your handheld.
    • If you click the Transfer items within a range of Days option and enter date range in the fields provided, only the calendar appointments that scheduled within the date range will be synchronized to your handheld.
  6. Click OK to save your changes and close the window.
  7. In the Handheld Configuration window, ensure that the check box beside the Calendar application is selected, then click OK.
  8. In the Intellisync window, ensure that the Synchronize PIM check box is selected, then click Synchronize Now. The number of calendar entries on your handheld is reduced.
If you still receive the error
Run Application Loader to reload the operating system and applications onto your BlackBerry device.

Description No applications on BlackBerry device


CAUSE
Both of the error messages indicate that no applications are loaded on the BlackBerry smartphone.
The error messages can have the following causes:
  1. While using the Application Loader tool to install BlackBerry Device Software, existing applications on the BlackBerry smartphone are erased, and new applications are not loaded.
  2. All data and applications are erased when an incorrect password is typed ten times into the BlackBerry smartphone.
  3. The Power Management feature on the computer disables the USB ports.
  4. The BlackBerry smartphone is connected to a laptop computer through a docking station.
Resolution

The following are possible resolutions for this issue.
Cause 1

While using the Application Loader tool to install BlackBerry Device Software, existing applications on the BlackBerry smartphone are erased, and new applications are not loaded
Complete the following steps:
  1. Verify that you have the BlackBerry Device Software installed on your computer.
  2. If your BlackBerry smartphone is connected to a laptop computer in a docking station, disconnect the laptop computer from the docking station and connect the BlackBerry smartphone directly to the laptop computer.
  3. If a third-party program, such as a virus scanner, is using the same communications port (COM port) as BlackBerry® Desktop Manager, close the third-party program to free the COM port for use.
  4. If you are using a USB adapter to connect your BlackBerry smartphone to a serial port on your computer, temporarily connect your BlackBerry smartphone to a computer with a USB port.
  5. Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager and double-click the Application Loader icon.
  6. Use the Application Loader tool to install the BlackBerry Device Software
Cause 2

All data and applications are erased when an incorrect password is typed ten times into the BlackBerry smartphone.
Resolution
Complete the following steps:
  1. Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager and double-click the Application Loader icon.
  2. Use the Application Loader tool to install the BlackBerry Device Software.
Cause 3

The Power Management feature on the computer disables the USB ports.
Note: This resolution is for Windows® XP users only.
Resolution
Complete the following steps:
  1. On your computer, click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
  2. In the Control Panel, double-click the System icon. The System Properties window opens.
  3. Click the Hardware tab of the System Properties and click Device Manager.
  4. In the Device Manager, double-click Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
  5. Right-click the first USB root hub, and click Properties.
  6. In the Properties window, click the Power Management tab.
  7. Clear the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power check box.
  8. Repeat for all other USB root hubs.
  9. Restart your computer.
Cause 4
The BlackBerry smartphone is connected to a laptop computer through a docking station.
Resolution
Complete the following steps:
  1. Disconnect the docking station from the laptop computer and connect the BlackBerry smartphone directly to the laptop computer using a USB cable.
  2. Re-install the BlackBerry Device Software using the application loadeR
Additional Information

Note: If Error 507 is displayed on the BlackBerry smartphone, the BlackBerry smartphone will not display as connected in the BlackBerry Desktop Manager. Use the Application Loader tool to install the latest version of BlackBerry Device Software on the BlackBerry smartphone
