Member: 956117 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 66 | Just so you know, there is not just one VSM for an 8800 or an 8110. Just like if you needed to repaint a School Bus for your local school system, you would not just ask the paint store for "Stencils and paint for a Thomas 8457 bus". You would need to specify your school name and what color paint at least. Please try to understand that the VSM file can specify lots of information so there could be an infinite number of VSM files that can be loaded to an 8800. There could also be a single VSM file that would work fine on both an 8800 as well as every other model BlackBerry ever made. This all depends on what infomation is desired to include in the VSM file. A VSM file may (or may not) include a splash screen. If it does, then it may be desired to have one that matches the resolution for the device or the device will have to scale the image up or down as needed. Possibly a better anology would be if you wanted to remodel your house, you would not just go to the building supply store and tell them "please load up my truck with the materials I'll need to remodel a 2-story ranch style house". To get you started, it may help you to know what branding information currently is on your device. You can find that out using the BrandingInfo tool that I helped write. |

Member: 967187 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 1 | I have a blackberry 8320 locked to Orange. I downloaded the torrent "Unlock your blackberry (all Models)[Scorcher]" I tried unlocking my phone with MFI version 1.8.1.3 and made sure all wireless and local network connections were disabled. Error messages that I received 1st error:"Unable to disable suspend on USB.Access to registry key\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\SE RVICES\USB is denied. 2nd error: Update failed:Could not find a part of the path T:\MML\Update\update.xmi (mscorlab) The only way that I got any output from MFI was to uncheck auto start and full erase. This brought up manual settings to Nuke, wipe, etc. When I pressed start the following message appeared: "Cannot create CFP instance. Please ensure the BBCFPCOM driver is registered." BB Auth Manager seems to not do anything and displays "waiting" message. The options are to disconnect, add server but when i click on the option nothing happens.Hope some1 can help. Thanks |

There's so many files in that archive, but the file names don't seem to correspond to specific vendor ID. I have no clue which file to pick to make for example a Bold show that it's AT&T. | |

Member: 952166 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | Thanks for your hard work. This seems like a much simpler solution. Two questions 1. How do you identify the MFI file needed for a device? I have a Bold and would like to know which file to use. 2. Many folks are unbranding Bolds because ATT has disabled the network mode option to prevent switching from 3G to 2G. Have you identified the areas of the VSM that controls this? If so, could you point it out on your VSM creation tool? Thanks again |

Member: 956117 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 66 | For any device, you can do "javaloader -u deviceinfo" to get the Hardware Id Then you can run "cfp fileinfo <filename>" replacing filename with any mfi or sfi file or any file for that matter. No matter what the file extension, if the command line programmer (cfp) can identify the file then it will display lots of information about the file. You will be looking here also for the Hardware Id to match it up with the value from running javaloader -u deviceinfo with your device connected. I believe the Bold has a hardware Id of 0x84000E07 and uses MFI-17584-032. Please note that it could also use MFI-17584-xxx where xxx may be any other number. Probably you would use the MFI file with the largest value for xxx since it is probably the most recent version. I have found two MFI files (MFI-11265-021 and the smaller MFI-12511-014) in the large collection that is circulating that are not recognized by cfp and cannot be used (they would not be for your Bold anyway). These two files seem to be either partial copies or in some other way corrupted. If you only will need to work with the Bold, then you don't really need the entire collection of MFI files and just MFI-17584-032 should do. You or someone else with a Bold can probably answer your second question by running a program on their device to dump the branding information to files on the file system. After running the program and selecting Go from the menu to start the process, you can copy the files to your computer to view them. If you like, you can zip them up and let me look at them. In any case this will let you know what your branding information is currently set to and it shouldn't be too hard to spot the culprit. You can probably fix the switching problem by only including things in your branding file creation that you know what they do and want that on your device. In other words if you don't want it and/or don't know what it is for, simply don't fill in that field. You can create a branding file by filling in none of the information and that will result in a file that if applied to your device will have a vendor ID of zero, no splash screen and no other branding at all. Most people probably want to specify their Vendor Id and some may want a splash screen as well. The rest of the fields can be left alone unless you see something that looks interesting. Of course you can re-brand your device virtually as many times as you like to try out different things. If you re-brand as much as I do then you will want a script or batch file to help automate the process. I've been using something like the following AutoHotkey script, but you will need to change the paths to match your file names and locations to match what you need for your computer and your BlackBerry. Code: #Persistent Menu, tray, add Menu, tray, add, Auto-MML, Auto-MML Menu, tray, add Menu, tray, add, Pre-MML, Pre-MML Menu, tray, add, Run MML, RunMML Menu, tray, add, Post-MML, Post-MML Return Auto-MML: Gosub, Pre-MML Sleep, 5000 Gosub, RunMML WinWaitClose, ahk_class WindowsForms10.Window.8.app.0.378734a Sleep, 1000 Gosub, Post-MML Return Pre-MML: RunWait, cfp -u load "c:\MML\HHFiles\MFI\MFI-10396-034" Return RunMML: Run, C:\MML\bin\mml.exe, c:\MML\bin WinWaitActive, ahk_class WindowsForms10.Window.8.app.0.378734a Send, +^!{F12} Return Post-MML: RunWait, cfp -u load "c:\sfi\8700-v4.2.1.107_P2.3.0.84.sfi" Return |
