What I think is that its a service issue. When you get edge written in small letters it means that you can not use the internet service. So the first thing is that do you even have the internet/data service activated or not? You have to activate the internet service on your phone/account and pay for it monthly. The procedure we are doing here in this thread are just to debrand the phone. It does not activate the service. I think that you are thinking that this procedure is to get the free internet service. Thats not the case. Correct me if I am wrong. Last edited by hapishyguy; 01-18-2009 at 02:22. Reason: revvision

Read what is written in that thread again. In that thread steps 1 to 6 are to only download the MFI. After the 6th step all other instructions are to unlock the phone. Please dont confuse others. Thanks

It wasn't clear that you are not referring to those steps, but to the steps in a different thread. Also, that other thread only has 6 steps enumerated, again making it unclear. So for clarity to others reading this, hapishyguy is refering to steps 1 - 6 in the referenced thread, not this thread--don't be confused by that.

Member: 949227 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | Also, for clarity, step 7 in this thread states: "7 unplug ur bb, close and open again mfi and deselect auto start". It makes no mention of "full erase", so the assumption is the you leave its checkbox in whatever state it is in when you re-open mfi. I guess I will find out if that is the right thing to do... |

My phone is back up running after installing the OS, but it is still branded (and sim locked), as I did not go through any step with the vsm. Since I got the "no application loaded" message on the device, that put me at step 11. Can you be a bit more specific on your exact steps with a Bold? After you got the "fail" on the PC and "no application..." on the BB, what was the next thing you did? Did you disconnect your device, start MML without auto select, then go into the hidden menu? Thanks. Quote:

Member: 949227 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | Hapishyguy: As a follow up to my last post, are these the steps you went through: 1 u have to have mfi the unlocking software....i dont have a link for it but if u search good enough ull find it 2 u need to have the vsm file someone posted on here 3 disable the internet of ur computer 4 open up mfi and select auto start on and full erase off 5 connect ur bb 6 let it do its thing until u see fail on ur screen and you see "no application..." on your bb 7 unplug ur bb, close and open again mfi and deselect auto start 8 with mfi opened hold on ctl+shift+alt+f12 and once the hidden menu comes up plug in ur blackberry 9 hit load vsm and find the vsm file u downloaded 10 its gonna say vsm loaded succesfully in less than a second 11 close mfi type in start on ur bb till it says no application linked factory os 12 turn on the internet again and open up desktop manager 13 go on application loader and load the os into the bb again |

Also make sure to delete the Vendor.xml file before you load the OS to the phone which is step13. This is a very important step. The vendor.xml file can be find at c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader. Last edited by hapishyguy; 01-19-2009 at 08:08. Reason: more specific |

Member: 945316 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 1 | Has anyone applied custom splash screens to VSM-11697-001 that they can share? I tried but I suck at hex and got a white screen plus vendor -1. Or can someone provide more details on how to tell the hex file the details of the new splash, I saw you had to tell it the new file size eariler in the thread. |
