Password Expiration and Update - GSM-Forum

Dear Members,

We are writing to inform you about an important security update that will be implemented on our forum platform. In order to enhance the overall security of our community, we will be introducing a password expiration policy.

Effective July 1st 2023, passwords that are older than one month will automatically expire. This means that if you have not updated your password within the past month, you will be prompted to create a new password upon your next login.

Why is this change being made? Our primary concern is the protection of our members' accounts and personal information. By implementing regular password updates, we aim to mitigate the risk of unauthorized access and ensure a safer online environment for everyone in our community.

We kindly request that all members take a moment to review and update their passwords before the expiration date. Please log in to your account and navigate to the account settings page to update your password. Remember to choose a strong and unique password that is not easily guessable. We recommend utilizing a combination of upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.

Important Note for Yahoo Mail Users: We have received reports that password reset emails may occasionally fail to arrive in Yahoo Mailboxes. If you are using a Yahoo email address and encounter difficulties receiving the password reset email, we recommend changing your registered email address to an alternative email provider. This will ensure that you receive important communications from us, including password reset instructions.

Overstrict password rules leads to constant "oh i forgot it again" and possible write down down on stick-o-notes on monitor ( security breach ) .
Or disappointment of customers and possible decrease of visits.

At some point i worked somewhere where i should change pass every 3 months.
Usually it came with swear words and recovery again and again.. ( compared to first 3 months "i remember it, and it is not written down somewhere" )
