Member: 2456556 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | Screen Malfunction after water (help) New iPhone 6 was exposed to water extremely briefly. Very little exposure but the phone is now not working properly. Everything is still functional. The phone can make and receive calls and texts. Camera works, Apps are working, Blue tooth works, phone rings, music plays, power buttons work etc. etc. The only problem is the screen is now considered defective. The phone now shows white horizontal bars on the bottom. I've read this is a sign of a "Defective screen". The phone also shows a few "water stains" on the corners of the screen. Although the phone can receive and send texts, I cannot always type (mostly in portrait orientation) as there are some dead spots on the keyboard, especially on the bottom left and right. Some apps and functions only activate only intermittently. Sometimes they activate to touch. sometimes they don't Example: I'll power on the phone by the home button. I swipe where I now need to enter my 4 digit passcode. However, the numbers won't type in. However, if I shut off the phone by the side switch, then try again, I can now enter the passcode. This happens over and over. Same issue with other functionalities. Sometimes I can't activate anything by touch, but if I then shut off the phone and try again, then it works. There actually does not appear to be any truly dead screen locations, just everything works intermittently, which is resolved by quickly turning the phone off and trying again. I took the phone to the Apple store asking for a screen replacement. They say it has signs of water damage, so they won't, and want to give me another phone for $300. They tell me the damage is at the screen connection to the mother-board on the edges of the phone, and claim "mother board damage". They state that the phone can not be repaired by simply replacing the screen. I am here to ask, does that make sense? I know nothing about mother boards, but would assume they operate all or nothing. I mean if the mother board was damaged, then why does the phone screen indeed work sometimes, but not others. Isn't the motherboard either dead or alive, with nothing in between? What do people think. Could this phone be salvaged with a simple screen replacement. I do not want to spend $300 to replace my brand new phone. Thanks for perspective. |
