3gs home button not working - logic board problem

anyone know what I can jumper/replace?

It seems that the voice control comes on when I first turn on the phone but then the home button does not work at all. Seems common problem with water damage which this phone does have. I looked around but couldn't find any solutions. Any ideas?

I have fixed this fault there was a damage to a capacitor near the dock connector which was shorting causing the home button to stay on and makes voice control comes on too.i just removed it and it is now working.

I ahve had this issue a few times. Always after water damage. The phone boots up and immediately activates the voice memo. The home button does not work also.

FIX
remove the board from the phone and remove the shields. Now clean well with Isopropyl Alcohol taking care around the back side of the board near the wifi chip and all exposed back area. Dry well and reassemble.
Works every time. Also fixes the home button issue.
good luck.

Yes I cleaned the motherboard with isopropyl alcohol as I do will all my repairs to water damaged iPhones. But in this case it the capacitor was shorting so I removed it and it is working 100% now.
Anyway you sometimes need to pin point the fault rather than use isopropyl and have the fault come back again.

I tried raptor3 solution but it made no difference. What I did to get this issue resolved was peel off that silver tape on the back of the logic board and then putting some flux on the dot for the home button (shown on raptor3 picture) a tiny bit of lead and that seems to fix the issue. make sure that there is a small gap where you see the circle (you can't have extra lead or else you'd have the same result.

Great tip!
Thanks for the help!!!
My board was booting up with the voice control at startup and the home button was not working.
I cleaned the circumference around small circle pictured, (note: no perceptible corrosion to the bare eye, only under magnification did I see a small, small bit)
After cleaning it worked great and saved a lot of time trying to figure it out!
Thanks for the great post and easy to understand picture!
