iPhone 3gs Power I.C. replacement (Process How To...)

Case:

iPhone 3gs fast drained batt and getting hot if it charge...

Cause:

Mainboard shorted

Solution:

Change Power Management IC...

Here's the way how to replace IC:

Preparing for reballing leads... I'm using heat resistant tape way of resoldering...

Mounting on solder plate...

Put solder paste (lead)...

Make sure lead paste must evenly distributed to holes...

Apply low heat and lead gradually melting...

After reballs from plate must reheat IC for even and fine lead settling...

Mounting to MB, heat must controled to prevent IC/MB spoiled...

Here's new IC mounted perfectly and beside is the shorted IC...

After assemble and plug in charge... It works but still lowbatt... (noticed at photo only 5 percent batt charged and the DATE when phone was dead)

Here's after how many minutes charge is 50 percent and for documentation compare IMEI on phone and the written IMEI on reciept and the problem written...

My first success change power IC is link HERE last year...

And somebody copied HERE...

Actually the 2 photos i remove showing the new ic, but since only 10 photos allowed i remove it...

HERE:

Remove PM IC from MB, take extra care IC is sealed and adjust low heat settings...

Replace it with new PM IC... New IC has no lead yet, it's color gold...

That's the 1st and 2nd steps...

You need to introduce mild heat to remove it... just mount in a plate that ic wont move while you heated it and scratch with flat tools or what your convenient tools to used..

I saw your video regarding removal of ic using infrared too... i've used it too but my eyes have problem seeing bright light...

Where can the replacement PM ICs be purchased, and how much?

My 3GS had failed battery. After replacement, the new battery drains very quickly. When put on charge, it shows charging symbol, but battery doesn't charge at all. Sometimes when using USB lead or mains charger, the symbol goes straight to the plug symbol, meaning fully charged, even though battery is totally dead and cannot charge it.

These ICs are very expensive, especially since they are only power management ones. I wonder why they cost so much. Usually China is very cheap for spares, as long as you can get them to send by airmail instead of highly expensive UPS couriers.
