I have the same problem with my iPhone 4. I already replaced the homebutton ribbon and docking, and the problem still exist.

Is the jumper on the homebutton ribbon really neccesary? I read people that only make the jumper on the mainboard to fix this problem.

Nice trick, bt havent come down to that, bt i hv somethings that i do n worked to share

Over time the contacts in the iphone home button gets dirty/oxidised so what i do is

Step one...
Drain ur battery flat ... Completely.
Ensure the device is off and place about two to three whole drops of
Isopropyl Alcohol(or u can ask for surgical spirit at your local ******cy)on the home button...
*
Depress the button 2 or 3 times to work the alcohol in.
*
Step two....
Wipe off the excess and "tap" the button firmly and rapidly about 10 times...
Not too hard or u could dent the metal dome contact and ruin the button.
*
Turn the device upside down and using a rag on ur finger continue to tap the button untill
There is no more evidence of alcohol seeping out around the button.
*
Step 3...
Let the ip4 sit in a warmish place for 15 mins... Recharge and...
*
VOALA!
No more sticky button!
*
Best repeated as soon as symptoms occur , before the dirt builds up too much.
*
The idea is.. There is an air gap arround the metal dome contact that allows the grease and
dirt from ur finger too work its way in.... Flushing it out with iso is guaranteed to remove most , if not all of
the contaminants.

Calibrate home button
*Turn of the iPhone completely and the turn it back on.
*Open any default application (Stocks, Weather, Calculator, etc) on the iPhone
*Press and hold the Power button (I hope you know where to find it ) till the “Slide to Power Off” dialog appears, then release the Power button
*Now press and hold the Home button (the one that is not working)*until the “Slide to Power Off” dialog disappears.
*Congratulations you just recalibrate the iPhone home button.
Test the iPhone home button
