IPhone 5 - Recovery stuck on "Waiting for Iphone"

Hello all,

I've lost several hours looking for a post answering my question but the forum is so full of information that it is hard to navigate through all the answers to find the "right" one.

I have an Iphone5 A1428 bought in oct 2012.

I did the iOS 9.3.2 update. Everything went fine.

I then did the iOS 9.3.3 OTA few weeks ago. I didn't check the phone during update but when I came back the phone was in DFU mode (black screen, can't start it, can't leave the DFU mode).

The only thing I did in between is change the battery. But the phone was working flawlessly... I tried to put back to old battery but no success.

Now, trying to fix it.

The phone don't start at all when pressing the top button.

When I plug it in ITunes, it's detected and the software is offering me to restore the phone. When I try, I can see the apple on the screen, then the turning wheel for few secs and then the progress bar. The progress bar is not moving at all... ITunes is stuck on "Waiting for Iphone". I waited for the whole night to see if it would unblock.

I went to Apple care. They say it's a hardware problem. The thing is, everything was working flawlessly before the update!

Anyone had the same problem?
Could it be that the memory was very full during the update?

I tried many computers, both Windows and Mac, many usb cables. and also the latest iOS 9.3.4 / iOS 10. Nothing worked.
I'm clueless on what to do right now... they (Apple care Paris) told me to write to the headquarters in Ireland but I'm loosing so much time on this.

Just want the phone to work like before... and I'm quite motivated to fix this issue :-)

I can do SMD soldering/capacitor check. Just need to know where to look at as the board seems to be visually OK. Could it be a cap problem? Anyone has the BRD files?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Regards,

Francois
