Question mystery iphone 3gs piece

i replaced a battery in my friend's iphone for a very yummy dinner they made. mushroom risotto. mmm.

but when i put it together again, i noticed there were two pieces on the table, that i had not seen before. I have no idea where they came from. i found it really strange because i did the job so carefully and only saw them when i had finished putting it together again.

the iphone needs charging overnight (i'm in the UK) so I haven't really tested if it works, i have just checked that it turns on ok. even if it does work ok, i'd like to know what these bits are and whether it will affect the functionality.

the images of the pieces are here

thanks all you smart people
