Lightbulb How to repair Samsung S5230 with Micron flash IC

Preface.
Last time released Samsung S5230 with firmwares S523MXXXXX(with Micron flash IC). Old firmwares don't know how to work with Micron, thus downgrade kills phones. Good old COM port boot-loader repair method does not works. There is only one way - repair it by RIFF box JTAG.
Procedure.
1. Repair boot-loader by RIFF box JTAG.

Important ! ! ! !
In case Your phone does not enter download mode after repair, You need to erase boot area in NAND.
  • Select Samsung S5230 in JTAG Manager,
  • Switch to DCC Read/Write TAB
  • Select ROM1 Address space
  • Uncheck ALL options
  • Enter 0x00000000 for Address
  • Enter 0x00020000 for Data Length
  • Press "Erase Flash"
Now reconnect phone and click "Resurrection" button again.
Phones with Chip ID: 0x002C/0x00BA will work ONLY with Year 2010 firmwares, JGx or JFx ! DO NOT flash the phone with old firmwares !

2. Flash newest
firmware S523MXEJF1 (or another Year 2010 firmware, JGx or JFx).

3. Enjoy!

How to erase flash with RIFF Box ?

- Untick "Main" file check box in file open field
- Tick "Auto FullFlash size"
- Click "Erase" button.

WARNING WARNING WARNING ! ! !

ALWAYS read full backup prior to erasing phone. Some phones like Samsung S8500, i9000 and many others CAN NOT be repaired for now if original EFS content is lost !

If You need full flash backup for any reason, here is one, unlocked and readed with RIFF Box :

http://rapidshare.com/files/42229365...ull_backup.rar

To flash TG01 You need the following :

Install TG Downloader and TG USB Drivers first, and reboot the PC.

Connect pin 1 to pin 3 on phone and hold the power button. Phone will enter download mode, Windows will find new device, and install drivers.
Start the TG Downloader with admin rights, and open the *.bin file. TG Downloader will report error with version, You need to press YES.

Now You need to select Toshiba DL port in port settings and after confimation, press "Download mode".
Phone will be booted, and You can press "Download" now.
Now simply wait for download process to be finished.

* * * New RIFF Box users, read this * * *

Hello,
At first, i wish to thank You for purchasing our product. You're welcomed to ask for any kind of help in our section !

Since You're beginner, here is the most important set of information related to setup and functions of RIFF Box.

- Download Installation of RIFF Box driver

Depending on Your operating system, download appropriate driver and unpack it to Your hard disk.
Connect the RIFF Box to USB port on Your PC using USB cable. Make sure to use root USB ports, (usually back side of PC) and not the HUB ports.

Windows will detect the new hardware, and request the software driver. YOu can now select driver directory where You've unpacked it.

You may need to DISABLE driver signing option in system settings.

- Download and installation of RIFF JTAG Manager software
Download setup file and execute it. The JTAG Manager will be installed to \System Drive\Program Files\RIFF Box JTAG Manager directory. Example :
"C:\Program Files\RIFF Box JTAG Manager\"
Quick launch and Program group icons will be installed too.

Now You can start the RIFF JTAG Manager application and download all the files which are required to use RIFF Box.
-----
IMPORTANT ! ! !
Windows VISTA and Windows 7 users may need to start software using administrator rights !
-----

Switch the JTAG Manager software to "Box Service" TAB :

Now You can click "Check for updates" button. JTAG Manager will now try to access RIFF Box update server.
----
IMPORTANT ! ! !
If You have firewall set, You need to allow access !
----
JTAG Manager will access the update server and download list of available updates:

As You can see, all available files are check by default, and queued for download. In case You don't need all the files at once, You can use right click to un select all files, and manually chose ones You need urgently. Since there is around 800MB of files currently, and this size will increase with time, You can download only files which You really need at the moment.
In that case, make sure to include latest RIFF Box firmware, and latest JTAG Manager software, together with desired device DLL! ! !
You can now click "Download Selected" and wait til process is finished :

RIFF JTAG Manager will be restarted, and in case You've downloaded new firmware, firmware update will be requested:

Now press "Yes" and wait for process to be finished.
----
IMPORTANT ! ! !
In some cases You may need to install RIFF Box driver again, since update mode enumerates box with different VID&PID. In this case, update process will be stuck at "Restarting". Simply press "Stop" and reconnect box. After setting up the driver, You can press "Firmware update" button again.
----

Now You are ready to use RIFF Box and its software with phones or other supported devices.
Congratulations !

How to change HTC CID :

In order to use desired ROM, You need to change CID to match the one hard coded into ROM. Tick the "Repair Custom ID(CID)" check box and enter desired CID code into text box.

More details about it You can read in "Resurrection Help", at the moment HTC Touch HD is supported for this function.
Other models will be added in following updates.

ERROR: Set I/O Voltage to 2.60V failed. Real reading is 3.14V
- Please try this : Connect the box, don't connect any cable or phone and in JTAG Read/Write tab tick "Connect and Get ID". Then post log here.

Connecting to the dead body...ERROR
ERROR: The RTCK Signal does not respond

- Please test with a working phone, in most cases this is connection problem between the phone to the riff box and/or the phone has some hardware problem which cannot be detected.
