ESN Swap from S3 to S5

Hi, I have an S3 that have service on it, and I want to start using anew S5 that i purchased.

I want to swap the ESN numbers from the S3 and put them on the S5. Sprint discontinued the plan that I have, and any change on their side requires me to pick a new plan.

I've tried qpst, cdmatool, and DFS trial. None of them can connect to my phones properly. I'm starting to wonder if it is a specific type of usb cable version that I need?

Using the same cable, I was able to root the new S5 no problem.

I already know the MSL for my S3, and I figure once properly connected, any of these tools should get me the MSL for the S5.
