    P900 imei change successful, but did it REALLY work?? SMAN thinks not...

    I managed to successfully change the imei of a P900 using a Terminator dongle & DIV 1.9

    When I check the imei using *#06# it shows the new imei, however, when i check the imei in SMAN by viewing the option system information, it still displays the old imei, even after refreshing the page using the refresh option. Is there more than one location where the imei is stored on the P900? Or could it just be the case that SMAN is not reading the new imei?

    Any help/info would be appreciated

    There's more than one place it's stored.

    On SE it's stored both on the OTP (one time programmable) chip, and in the GDFS area. I guess that SMAN (whatever that is) is reading the OTP IMEI, which you can't change.

    SMAN is an application for the p900 which provides functions similar to task manager within windows.

    For example, if the imei is stored in two locations, which imei is read/detected by the network when you use a simcard? Can they detect both?

    @mrtony969

    Where is the info regarding the 2 locations of the imei on p900? I have found the archive on the site contaning the p900 flash files, however i have already successfully changed the imei using the disable imei check patch.

    I would like to know which imei is read by the network when the phone is powered on. If it is the imei in the GDFS, then what is the use of the imei in the OTP chip?

    Again any info would be greatly appreciated

    OTP = One Time Programmable. You can't change this without removing the chip and resoldering it.

    The GDFS one is changeable and it's the one the phone uses to sign onto the network etc. Why it is stored in the GDFS, thus allowing it to be easily modified I don't know. The phone's firmware by default checks the OTP=GDFS imei and if it doesn't match locks the phone. But with the patched flash you can remove this check, thus using any IMEI you want to.

    As for which one SMAN reads, it must be the OTP if it's not changing. But I would have thought only programs like Div/Fighter are able to read the OTP imei...

    Hope that answers the questions.

    @Muppet

    Thanks for the quick replies, you have been most helpful!

    Can a similar process be carried on a nokia 8910i? I have one with the same problem, however as far as i know they work on a similar system with the imei stored on a OTP chip. The only way i know of resolving this is to replace the OTP chip with a blank one and re-prog the imei. However this requries a hot air soldering station which are very expensive! Any new solutions as of now?

    Again thank you muppet

    For reference:

    SMAN is an application that resides on the phone. Once installed, by accessing the system info option, it can give information such as the cpu type & speed of the phone, RAM and ROM memory sizes, etc etc. it is a very useful app to have installed on your phone if you ever own a P900!

    @Fonefingz

    Will be mailing you shortly

    When I changed the imei of my P900 the phone appears to function properly, however, if i use Opera or the inbuilt browser to access the internet on my mobile, after connecting the phone backlight turns off for a second, then back on, then about 5 seconds later the phone restarts. When it powers back on it displays the message 'phone has restarted to improve performance'. However now it semms to do this every time i connect to the internet with my phone! any solutions? If i back up my phone using the SE software, will it save everything? ie my sms mesages, contacts, phonebook photos etc etc? If so i will attempt a backup, full format and restore.
