Question Sony Ericsson W980 Help Needed

My partner has this phone with some photo's on. The phone's battery sort of popped when charging but no physical damage to the phone. But after obtaining a replacement battery the phone shows no life. Connecting the charger or data cable shows no life & the pc don't detect any new hardware connected when using data cable.

I'm technically minded & i was just wondering, is it possible to recover the photo's stored on the phone? Is the memory stored on a separate board to the part that the phone gets its power from as if the power surged the phone it might of blew it but the memory card board may still be in tact & i could connect it to a working like for like phone.

Never done this with mobile phones before so I thought i would ask before I venture down this path.

    Thanks

I get nothing. What does happen however is when i connect the Data cable to the phone with no battery, the red light comes on. When i connect the battery the red light turns off & on again if i remove the battery.

However when i attempt to turn the phone on with the data cable connected but no battery, the red light goes off permanently & I need to unplug the data cable & re connect it to get the red light back. The same happens when I have the battery connected, I attempt to turn in on when battery in & get nothing, remove the battery & the light does not come back on unless i pull out & reconnect the data cable.
