how hard is it to unlock this phone?

simple! u only need some clicks :)

what equiptment do i need and does this work with all versions of the firmware.?

If you only have one unit to do, buy a log and a cable the total of this will be about 15 quid. A t28 cable will do if you already have one. You can find people in the "main sales section" selling logs. Follow the instructions that they give. If you have a few to do, the cheapest way is to buy a terminator dongle, and downlad the cracked div software. Should set you back about 35 quid. The div / terminator will unlock 99% of sonyericssons on the market.
There is better hardware to do this job, but for a lot more money. Finally with a decent pc i have never had a problem with the terminator dongle.
