Firstly, you can rely on iCloud or iTunes to recovery iPhone contacts, after all, it is free.
1. Connect your iPhone with iTune on computer
2. Right-click or control-click on the iPhone icon under iDevice on iTunes
3. Select "Restore from Backup" from the given options
4. After it finishs, your contacts are back to your iPhone
Important Note: This works only if you have made a backup for your contacts on iTunes.
IF the iCloud or iTunes cannot help to make a iPhone data recovery, you can turn to a third party tool.

There is one "free with limitations" program I know of which claims to be able to recover iPhone data. The limitation is 1GB of data, which I'm guessing would be more than enough ...

Tenorshare iPhone Data Recovery Mac

It does seem though to be aimed at the backups made by iTunes when synching an Iphone with said program. If you don't use iTunes with your iPhone, then it's probably gonna be a professional recovery which will set you back a few quid.

I don't usually post links to commercial software, but in this case, you don't have many avenues to explore, so it may help.

The disappearance of an important contact must be very upsetting. If you have previously backed up, the solution is simply to restore the backup. If not, you're welcome to try LazePaw, a data recovery tool.It can help you recover deleted contacts from your iPhone. You can preview ahead of time and selectively recover the data you want.

To recover contacts from iPhone, you can use a professional iOS data recovery tool such as TunesKit iPhone Data Recovery. It can help you restore your lost or deleted iPhone contacts from the device itself, iTunes backup, or iCloud backup. And the steps are quite simple, you just need to connect your iPhone to the computer, run the program and click the Repair button. Done!

Now there is good news for you! This software is now at an up to 55% discount during this Thanksgiving & Black Friday Sale period. You can come and get it at a lower price: https://www.tuneskit.com/special/thanksgiving-sales/
