Use cotton swap and put a little alcohol then insert the cotton swab inside the
headset port on the top part of the phone. Rotate the cotton swab 5-10 times
then remove it from the headset port. Make sure no cotton will be stuck inside
the port.

true ....
shame apple make very poor quality parts ....
if that solution not working for you , you can do 2 things .

first open the back of the iphone cover
1 . change the headset/power/volume flex cable.
2 . you can only desolder the headset connector , volume will be back on ear but you will not have headset :P
