iPhone 3G...Not Turning On

Hey All,

I recently purchased an iPhone 3G with the knowledge it would not turn on. It appeared that the LCD was damaged, so I assumed an easy fix. However, when I opened the phone I noticed that the sticker on the mainboard was tampered. I took out the motherboard, checked the connections and reattached everything....still not turning on. I think I need a new battery, but I am not sure. Is there anything else that is not a critical, that could be causing this problem?

Thanks for any help

is there a schematic for the power button?
would a faulty battery prevent the phone from powering on...even while connected to an ac adapter?

The phone was on while you opened it?
When I did that I had to replace the battery...

You could try to charge it with an external powersupply.
Had some problems with another iphone and that worked for me.
That phone also didn't charge or turn on

well i connected the phone to an ac adapter and still it did not turn on...
when i opened it, power may have been flowing from the battery, and who knows what the original owner did.

i realize a battery replacement is necessary, but I want to be sure it's nothing major

yes, if i know maybe with software. not with hardware!
if with software, solution:

-your pc must connect with internet
-connect your iphone with pc using USB
-open itune (latest version)
when itune appear, it show dialog: your iphone can't connect to iphone store
and then you click ok
than click restore button for restore a new firmware.

thanks. www.sevensday.com

if your battery is charged, press the center button with the power button at the same time, and wait for 15 secondes. if it's a soft trouble, your phone will swith on, if not check ther hard part.

Try to connect in Itunes in DFU mode
Hold 10 sec. the home and powerbutton, then release the power button while still holding the home button.

If Itunes pop ups with a restore, try to restore it.
If you get a 1600 or 1601 error after serveral tries then it's probably the battery.
Well in my case it was the battery.

You can try to recharge the battery with another power supply then the iphone itself

Maybe this topic is helpfull

Just connect an external power supply 3.7v to the + and -
If you have the battery in front of u with the contact pointing above then the outer left is + and the outer right is -

These what I will try if you already have the new battery,
(1), Hold down the Home button only and connect to itunes for 15-20 sec and see if itune can detect it,
(2), connect to itune, Hold both power and home for 10 sec, release the power button and still hold down the home for a while, sometimes it take 25 sec or more and see if itune can detect it

Regards
