iphone 3g stuck in headphone mode

I have the 16gb 3g model and its stuck in headphone mode all the time. Have changed both the headphone speaker cable and the mic cable but still no luck. if i try the mainboard from another iphone it works fine so it looks like there is an issue on the mainboard. Can anyone suggest what needs to be done to rectify this issue??? which ic's do i need to look at???
Have tried reinstalling the software 2.2 but still no luck.
Advice anyone??

Take a can of compressed air with that long thin red tube and stick it in the headphone jack and shoot a couple of spirits. But be careful not to turn the can upside down because you don't want that white liquid shooting into the phone. Hold it upright, take a couple of shots into the air first, then put it in your headphone jack.

It happened to me and after trying put in my headphones, then taking them out, it still didn't work. I went to the apple store

and they did this to my phone.

They said that sometimes dust particles fall into the jack. When you put in your headphones, it lodges the dust into the jack making the phone think that headphones are still in place when there not. Good luck.

Please note another mainboard works on this phone, and if i take this mainboard onto another phone it also does the same thing. There is something wrong on the board not with the jack!!!

try this: rapidly re-plug and un-plug the headphone several times. See how it goes.

What about the mother board... did it receive some shock damage or water damage? What is the full story of the phone?
