I did this myself today with no problems at all

I did the shift and restore (hold down shift whilst pressing restore) together in itunes, shut down itunes, use redsn0w, then unltrasn0w. At first i didn't get any network but you switch off your phone then switch it on again and it should then work....

Follow these directions

step 1)Restore phone with 3.0(when done close itunes) you will need itunes 8.2
step 2)Jailbreak with redsn0w
step 3)update cydia (i use wi-fi)
step 4)add ultrasn0w in cydia and install just adding the repo line dosent unlock it
you will need make sure after you add the repo666.untrasn0w.com you
uncheck the edit button and then install it or it will never work
step 5)turn off 3g in the network settings
step 6)insert your sim card and restart the phone(wait)

you should have service within 20 seconds or so
