It actually get much better range than most SDR devices on the market now, but the Windows GSM Software is still ALPHA.

We honestly need programmers to extend/create applications around the SDR hardware coming to market.

RangeNetworks REALLY pissed us all off by IGNORING the University, and the $2000 they refuse to refund! That University, the Illinois Institute of Technology, is hosting its former Professor next week on November 10, 2014:

http://static.ddmcdn.com/gif/2-40-ye...ne-dynatac.jpg

The Birth and Death of the Cell Phone: Chicago Council on Science and Technology is pleased to co-present

Martin Cooper changed the world when he made the first cell phone call 40 years ago, on a two-pound-plus Motorola DynaTAC phone. His first call: to the head of research at Bell Labs, a company that also was attempting to build the first cell phone. It would be over a decade before the first cell phone would be commercially available, but Cooper's call opened the door to true mobility and continues to affect virtually every aspect of our lives.

Martin Cooper holds a B.S. and an M.S. in electrical engineering and an honorary doctorate from Illinois Institute of Technology, on whose Board of Trustees he serves as a life trustee.

Mr. Cooper will be made AWARE of the last 2 years of ZERO support from RangeNetworks who ripped off his University!

DETAILS: Monday, November 10, 3:30 p.m. Lecture, Hermann Hall Ballroom, 3241 South Federal Street. Chicago, IL, 60616, 5 p.m. Reception, Hermann Hall Gallery. Complimentary parking will be available in the A4 (32nd and State Streets) and B5 (32nd and Federal Streets), parking lots.

RSVP no later than November 9, 2014. Please register at

These HandHeldSDRs will be made available but I've been swamped with getting the device to work with Windows TouchScreen Tablets, and other stuff, as well as working towards it being recognized by OpenBTS-UMTS.

Why will it be able to work with OpenBTS-UMTS?

Because RangeNetworks 5150 already was " Talking " to the HandHeldSDR as you can see from the pictures below. I've been busy getting the HandHeldSDR to work with TouchScreen & other devices so please sit tight and YES everyone will be able to obtain this HandHeldSDR!

After Martin Cooper left IIT, he went to work for Motorola where he created this device: http://www.thehindu.com/multimedia/d...y_1420194f.jpg

I'm going to be showing Martin Cooper the HandHeldSDR, as he believes in Cognitive Radio, and am working on getting it recognized by OpenBTS-UMTS :-)

I'll be posting pricing/availability this week!

Pricing

Bod,

To answer your question, GNURADIO recognizes the HandHeldSDR as a USRP so since this is being sold as a " Development Kit ", getting those waveforms you mentioned to work with the device wouldn't be impossible :)

Excessive, I've listed the prices below for you and purchasers will receive their HandHeldSDR in December upon payment

The HandHeldSDR devices will be available for delivery December 2014

I dont see why it * couldn't * work with LTE though I've yet to really concentrate on it.

The bottom line, this device gets recognized as a USRP under the most current versions of GNURadio.

So I believe it will be able to work with some form of LTE software

WindyCitySDR 11-07-2014 20:01

Platijet,

One of the nuances in getting SDR devices to work with *Specific* waveforms, such as OpenBTS-UMTS, most times requires a hardware change:

OpenBTS-UMTS requires a 61.44Mhz clock. The clock that is on the HandHeldSDR is a 64Mhz clock, but swapping it out for a $5 or less 61.44Mhz clock would be necessary to run OpenBTS-UMTS.

WindyCitySDR 11-09-2014 20:23

This should work for the purposes of implementing LTE / UMTS / WCDMA with the HandHeldSDR.

Maybe put a socket on it :-)
