GUIDE: Direct mode (S-OFF/IMEI/etc) phones with download mode (A9/M9/626/etc)
 

Dear customers,

Here is an information about how to work with new phones which have "Download mode".

1. What is a "Download mode"?

Download mode is a new service mode introduced since HTC M9. You can flash and service your phone in this mode.

2. How do I get into this mode?

2 ways:

a) While phone is powered OFF, hold VOLUME DOWN and POWER.
b) Connect your phone to PC. Run XTC 2 Tool and press "Download" button in mode selection.

How do I use XTC 2 Clip with these phones?

First, you must connect your XTC 2 Clip to the phone, a connection example can be found here:

NOTE! Clip must be connected BEFORE phone is powered ON. If the clip was connected AFTER, then you need to reboot download mode.

M9 in download mode, "SD NOT MOUNTED" = No SD card / XTC 2 Clip connected

M9 in download mode, "GT_CONNECT_FAIL" = XTC 2 Clip connected, but probably you need to repair it

M9 in download mode, no error = XTC 2 Clip connected and everything is ready for operation. You will also see additional options (Factory reset and Check smart SD (note - if the phone is S-OFF you'll see these options even without the clip)

Now, when everything is ready - you can run XTC 2 Tool and open "Direct mode commands" tab:

You can use the buttons from highlighted area (IMEI1/IMEI2/CID/MEID/S-OFF)

Possible errors:

NOT_FIND_SMART_IO - Your clip is not attached.
VERIFY_GET_PATERN_FAIL - Make sure your clip is upgraded and activated. You can also try to repair clip.
DECREASE_CYCLE_FAIL - Please contact us via PM or on skype: xtc2clip

SIM UNLOCK

Unfortunately you cannot unlock phones from direct mode. To remove sim lock, please use "Sprint" tab for Sprint phones and "Special unlock" tab for all other phones.

Could you add some info about error SELECT_APPLET_FAIL?
At first i got GT_CONNECT_FAIL, after repaired, now i get error "SELECT_APPLET_FAIL" (I inserted SD in phone then press download in tool)

It's a rare case. Your clip is damaged, contact support with your clip ID please.
