htc one max sprint USA unlock or only outside usa?

I just bought my xtc2 clip I used to have the first clip....anyhow the sprint unlocks are for domestic use or international use???
I just unlocked a htc one max from sprint but when I put sim card is says sim card not valid... can someone please tell me?

Please don't forget to S-OFF your phone, and then unlock again.

I tried unlocking it and put my cricket (att) sim card and phone keeps telling me "no sim card" I put the network on GSM only and keep getting same error. I already have s 0ff and ive tried to unlock again but I keep getting same error no sim card. anything else I have to change?
