3. The firmware has to be in zip format as I show in the screenshot.

Process:

1. We take the xiaomi, enter the recovery mode and choose the 3rd option of the recovery connect with MiAssistant press power and connect with the xiaomi usb cable.

2. We install the miflash software, we update it, since the same software is another way to download firmware either in zip or fastboot format. We go to the recovery screen and you will see that the software automatically recognizes us the xiaomi, we only have to locate the firmware in .zip format will check the firmware and automatically flash the firmware, without credits or authorized xiaomi accounts.

Hi,
If phone is not booting to recovery & coming only in fastboot mode what can be option to flash as not able to unlock bootloader too

can you help out with same. Along EDL Mode flashing is not working too....

Hey, You provide amazing info. Here I need to add 1 method.

Upgrade or Downgrade MIUI version Without PC

1. Download the MIUI version and store it into the internal storage of your device. (you can download it from Xiaomi Fireware )
2. Go to the setting > About Phone > choose to check for updates.
3. At the right-hand corner touch on Three dots for more options.
4. Select “Choose Update Package” and then choose the downloaded to setting and choose three dots file from your storage “MIUI ROM”.
5. Now, wait for the completion of the upgrading process.
6. Congratulations!

How To Enable Choose Update Package Option
1. In the about phone > Check Updates
2. Tap on MIUI logo up to 15 times
3. The option is enabled

yes, for redmi note 8 you can download Fastboot as well as recovery ROM "MIUI 11.0.9" with Android 9 from xiaomi firmware updater and then apply above method to upgrade or downgrade MIUI version

Even you can check my blog Doctor Xiaomi and go throw the method for redmi note 8 nd 8 pro as well
