LG Neon - TE365 (KS360) - Fido branded (custom mp3 ringtones disabled)

I recently signed up with Fido and have an LG Neon AKA the LG TE365 AKA the KS360. (the box actually lists it as TE365F)

I quickly discovered that Fido/Rogers has disabled the use of custom MP3 ringtones, which, to put it bluntly, ***** big time.

I am on a quest to find a way to enable custom MP3 ringtones.

It seems my best bet would be to flash the firmware to European unbranded QWERTY KS360 firmware, though I will lose the use of the 850mhz band.

Does anyone know if switching to the European unbranded firmware will allow one to set custom MP3s as ringtones and sounds?

I've been looking all over online and I haven't been able to find too much yet about enabling custom MP3 ringtone use on the LG Neon (TE365), because it has only been out for a little while.

This is actually a big problem here in Canada. Tons of people are pissed about how Fido is blocking the use of custom MP3 ringtones on the LG Neons. And so far there is no solution that can be found anywhere online. It is my hope that this thread will generate some activity and be host to a working solution, and all who are looking online for a solution to this may find it.

I would be interested to hear from anyone else who is currently working in this direction as well, or from some of you who might have already accomplished this.

Yes, all Canadians agree!

Yes, tested, it works! And yes again, you will lose 850MHz.

Yes, tested by us. Flashing the TE365 with KS360 firmware works but remember to fix IMEI as it gets corrupted when flashed. Keep in mind you need KE500 cable NOT KG800. After, direct unlock the phone. You will however lose your 850MHz and this was tested also by us with our Rohde & Schwarz CMU200. There seems to be a quad band chip on board and is controlled by the firmware. Our guess is we can flash KS360 with TE365 and it will disable 900MHz but add 850MHz. Will test later.

for the flashing part you can use KG800 cable but you have to use ke500 RJ45 box cable to do the imei fix, in my place ppl is ok with only 1900 band so there is no problem

Point being is you still need KE500 cable regardless, after flashing IMEI is corrupt hence cannot receive network service and therefore IMEI "has" to be repaired in order for the phone to work.

850MHz is so important in my area that customers wouldn't even consider losing 850 to gain mp3 as a ringtone.

Hey guys I just got the Neon today. Was wondering if you can post step by step instructions on how to unlock and flash the firmware to European unbranded QWERTY KS360 firmware ??? I've always bought unlocked phones but now I have to do it myself i guess haha

Also what does losing the use of the 850mhz band mean ? Is that Internet access?

Thanks so much in advance

how do you know which frequencies you need or don't need?
because I really want to unlock my Neon but I'm worried about losing the 850 range.

also how do you repair the IMEI?
is there a chance that it might get corrupt (irreparable)?

really appreciate the help!!

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GSM_frequency_ranges :

Quote:
In North America, GSM operates on the primary mobile communication bands—850 MHz and 1900 MHz. In Canada, GSM-1900 is the primary band used in urban areas with 850 as a backup, and GSM-850 being the primary rural band. In the United States, regulatory requirements determine which area can use which band.

Hi all,

I recently discovered how to set custom MP3 ringtones on this phone with NO MODIFICATION.

Just check out this youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGCGkZKafJ8

It's a secret feature (or bug) built into the phone OS !

Hope this helps
