I tried everything to fix my GT-p1000 and could not get anything to work and I only had an 8gb sd card but I thought I would give this a try and it worked!! I partitioned the sd card on my computer then put it in the tablet and only flashed my stock ROM and the overcome kernel using Odin and the tablet booted right up after being down for 3 months while trying to find a solution!!! Thank you so much!!!!

Make the partitions primary and learn how use push and pull in adb, because all you need to do is exactly what the guide says and when it reaches the point where you have to edit vold.fstab then you need to pull this file from /system/etc/ and after you have edited the file ( you can use notepad++ for this task), then you will need to push the file back to /system/etc/, but please, please make sure you know what you are doing or your may brick your p1000 for good, and oh i almost forgot, you can only pull the vold.fstab in recovery mood something like that. i hope this will help someone.

Many thanks, I followed this guide and my tab is working after a long time. However, the phone restarted when I install any application. Also I can’t view the SD space. Any idea how to recover this.

Is it possible to adapt this guide to recover a GT-I9300 S3?

I have the same error in internal card emmc with my GT-I9300:
"mmc0: error -110 whilst initialising MMC "

Has anyone succesfuly adapted this guide to recover a S3?

I think that cloud be possible but I don't know how.

Thank you!

The Symptoms

When Booting the device got stuck at the Samsung Logo Screen
ODin/Heimdall fails on any rom which include an hidden.rfs and movinand.mst
ODin/Heimdall report success when flashing flashing roms without hidden.rfs and movinand.mst
Recovery Mode reports errors after flashing. The error is different depending on which rom was flashed but are all related to file system functions.

Internal MMC checksum verify failed.
E: failed to mount /system (invalid argument)
E: failed to mount /dbdata (Invalid argument)
E: /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 on /data failed: No such file or directory
E: copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount /dbdata

The Problem
The recovery errors alone are not enough to diagnose the problem as they can also occur if flashing has been carried out incorrectly.

The main pointer to an Internal SDCard Failure is the inability to flash hidden.rfs and movinand.mst
You should be able to confirm this to be the case by running dmesg on the device using adb from the command prompt
Code:

adb shell dmesg

My output contained the following line:
Code:

<3>[ 4.802004] mmc0: error -110 whilst initialising MMC card

The Solution
Normally you should be able to RMA this as it is an hardware failure.
However as warranties expire or you just can't be bothered to wait here is an alternative solution

1. Format the external sdcard with 3 parititions (you can probably get away with 2) I used a 32 GB card with the follwing

Partition 1: 28 GB Fat 32 (sdcard partition)
Partition 2: 4 GB ext4 (data partition)
Partition 3: 100MB Fat 32 (preload partition)

If you want more space for app, make the data partition larger

2. Flash Latest Rom. I used XWJQ8 but I also flashed XXJPZ Successfully and I don't think it makes alot of difference

I Used Heimdall for this and I flashed everything. Odin should do the Job as long you remove hidden.rfs and movinand.mst from the tar balls

Code:

heimdall flash --repartition --pit gt-p1000_mr.pit --primary-boot boot.bin \
--cache cache.rfs \
--factoryfs factoryfs.rfs \
--modem modem.bin \
--param param.lfs \
--secondary-boot Sbl.bin \
--kernel zImage --recovery zImage

3. Flash latest Overcome Kernel 4 which can be downloaded from the teamovercome download page

4. Boot To Recovery ( You should now see Clockwork Recovery Mod )

5. edit /system/etc/vold.fstab on the device to look like the following

Code:

# internal sdcard
{
ums_path = /sys/devices/platform/usb_mass_storage/lun0/file
asec = disable
discard = disable
format_option = -r 1558
}
dev_mount sdcard /mnt/sdcard 1 /devices/platform/s3c-sdhci.2/mmc_host/mmc1

# externel sdcard
{
ums_path = /sys/devices/platform/usb_mass_storage/lun0/file
asec = enable
}
dev_mount sdcard /mnt/sdcard/external_sd auto /devices/platform/s3c-sdhci.2/mmc_host/mmc2 /devices/platform/s3c-sdhci.2/mmc_host/mmc1

6. Reboot, System Should now functioning normally.

Note: First boot takes a while. if you are worried or think it is boot looping, you can watch the output using adb logcat

You should now have a working galaxy with the added bonus of a re-sizable data partition.
don't forget thanks button
thanks for this method but editing and adb was hard to learn

No need for ADB. Just install Stock ROM GB_Stock_Safe_v5.tar, flash the file: Overcome_Kernel_v4.0.0.tar so tablet can use the EXT4 partition otherwise with just stock rom is not recognized (do not use repartition option now), and then copy the last Overcome flash directly on the SD - on the first SD partition. Filename of Overcome flash I used for my GT-P1000 was: Overcome_7_Series_v4.1.0_NoWipe.zip. The three partitions on SD are easy to make using Minitool Partition Wizard Home Edition. All three partitions must be set to be primary partitions. Then install file Overcome_7_Series_v4.1.0_NoWipe.zip using the Install Zip from external/internal SD card - command from recovery. Reboot to system and wait up to 4 minutes. But now there is a problem with camera - error : Turn off USB storage before using camera" - I gotta find a solution for that. Cheers!
