Depends on the specific model, most are NOT hard coded, a couple are hard coded into radio firmware. Some will be dependent on the antenna, which is obviously hardware

It is an HTC phone, but it is not really using HTC's typical bootloader security, nor is the unlock mechanism the same. All pixel devices "appear" s-off, but the devices read it as S-ERR. There is still signature validation to the bootloaders. S-OFF serves no purpose on the pixel.

As to the log file - I can promise to make it in the upcoming release on the upcoming week.

As to model finder - that's true, we know we need it, and I hope it will be done 2-3 releases later.

Sometimes people send me log files in PM and asking for help.
It will be great if you can add some more info in log:

EXAMPLE
current log info
10/31/2016 11:12:53 AM Great, you are using latest version!
(will be great if log will show current version. You shouldn't then ask user about version)
future updates log info
10/31/2016 11:12:53 AM xtc2tool version is 1.26 version

I dont know which "what" you are referring to. Pixel bootchain is vastly different than any other HTC ive seen.
