iPhone 6s water damage

Hi there,

A few nights ago, I accidentally dropped my iPhone 6s in the water. Because it was quite deep water it took me a while to get it out again. After letting it dry for a bit, my girlfriend tried to power on the phone. It gave the "battery empty" screen, which made her think the phone was probably dry, so she connected the power cable

Almost immediately after she did that, the phone screen turned blank. I've left the phone to dry for 3 days now but it won't turn on. Now here's what I'm wondering: what most likely happened after connecting the power cable? Did it break just the battery and can I just replace the battery, or did it most likely break multiple components and am I better off buying a new phone?

This might be a stupid question, but I'm hoping someone can educate me on this. Thanks in advance
