OK, I have Cingular Gophone (GSM) service that work pays for (they wanted to go Prepaid so the books would look good for them). Anyways I purchased a Samsung I607 Blackjack (Cingular) from a CompUSA store near me that was having a liquidation sale and inserted my sim and all is fine. I can make calls (GSM and 3G) and I have GPRS/Edge/3G internet with it...

I wanted to the Unlock Code from them so I can use either T-Mo in my area or when I go away to another country for work I can use a SIM from there.

I called 18003310500, told them I have a blackjack, and a cingular sim and I have been using the phone for the past week or so...Ask for my unlock code and then they looked up my number and said they can not give me the unlock code for the phone b/c I was "PRE-PAID" and I was not even suppose to use the blackjack and the its high speed services with prepaid. I was warned that there maybe additional charges against my balance, it was not wise to continue to use the blackjack for a pre-paid account...If I do continue to use the blackjack the charges for usage will make my funds in the account disappear fast....On the other hand he said I can get it "Unlocked" from another source and told me to search the internet for unlocking sites and it would cost a few bucks...I guess that its ok to use it outside of cingulars service, but not on cingular pre-paid???

Anyways, I did search and found a few places that offer unlocking service, I need to pay and send my IMEI number to them and I will get the code back....So how does this work??? and why can't I do it myself???

Is there a "master list" of IMEI# and the unlock codes that go with the list???

Is there a programs or a calculator that can do this for me??? (I remember a calculator type programs for my nokia, simple enter my IMEI, pick a carrier, select a number enter it and baam its unlocked)

I have also seen "Boxes" that will do this for me, but I need to send it in and the phone gets hooked up to the box which unlocks it....

Where can I find a calculator or programs that can get me this code???
