OK, got it too work using PC Suite 5.02 and firmware 5.50. What need to do in the BT Manager on the PC is set up the service for 'Nokia PC Suite' and use this to connect, and not the default serial service that I was trying to use. Works great, syns my Outlook etc. Running Windows ME with dLink DBT120 USB BT dongle.
