A quick question about typical phone service policys.

I know im asking a pretty simple question, but i want to be 100% sure of my self before i do somthing stupid. Right now im using AT&T's National Plan from the SoCal area. What exactly defines "long distance", and are free nights and weekends covered in my "long distance"? With the national plan, do all my "long distance" calls get charaged to my regular minutes? My mom was bugging me to borring my phone so she could talk to her relatives, and i dont' wanna end up with a $400 long distance bill becuase i misunderstood the term "free nights and weekends". heheh.
