they do it a different way but I dont care just DFU mode . 
then you download iphone 3gs firmware from here : iPod, iPhone and iPad Firmware Download
make sure get 4.0.1 if you want to keep unlock
then open itunes hold shift and press restore (assuming your on a windows computer). then locate the 4.0.1 file I just told you to download.
wait for it to complete then put in original sim card and activate with itunes. then as our friend just said go to jailbreakme.com
