This is a complete separate issue from iCloud locked watches.

We work on these models all the time. Well over 100 repaired. Only had 3 of them with the issues. It cannot be detected, no matter what others say. Yes, the date issue is a thing. I've activated a watch with a sale date of 1/1/85 and it worked completely normal (my post about is is somewhere in this forum). If you're looking to buy demo watches to sell, stay away from LTE S3. The error message is unrecoverable. If you'll notice, it also happens on some demo iPhones too. Port covers, in my opinion, aren't too necessary IF: 1. You're using it for personal use. 2. You know for sure you won't be swimming with it. They are absolutely not required for water resistance. I've tested this on a 1st generation and took into the shower, with no issues whatsoever. Although there were no issues in that instance, I definitely would not have gone into the swimming pool with that watch, whether it be series 1 or series 3 and be missing the port cover. I say this because it is impossible (as far as I know) to get just the cover itself. Cheapest way would probably be iCloud locked watch.

There's a little hole in it where you stick a needle to remove it, and all that's blocking water from passing is a piece of adhesive tape. If you removed the cover and then put it back on, there's probably a hole in that adhesive now. Meantime, the contact assembly itself is water tight, and there's a gasket to seal it where it screws into the watch body. So I think the only risk from a missing cover is corrosion of the contacts. But they're gold plated so that's not likely to happen either. If they get dirty just clean them with a swab and whatever you favor for cleaning the rest of the watch. If you plan to resell the watch, the cover becomes a factor only because a buyer might perceive the missing cover as being a problem. It's not actually a problem. BTW I've seen iCloud-locked watches "magically" unlock months later. If the former owner logs into their iCloud account, sees the old watch, and clicks "remove" you're back in business. I've recovered a handful (out of hundreds) by just retesting every month or so. My record was one that was locked in Feb 2016, still locked in Aug 2017, and unlocked in Sep 2017. Those are some good points. The diagnostic port cover is really sealed with nothing basically, except for some weak glue.

When the user hits “reset iPhone”, a prompt should pop up about unpairing the watch because you have to remove iCloud to reset the phone. The user will often not read and input the password.
