What if iPhone 12 swaps motherboards: problems such as Face ID being disabled

In the previous comprehensive dismantling conducted by iFixit, it was found that unless Apple's proprietary diagnostic tool can be used, the camera module of the iPhone 12 series cannot be interchanged. However, this seems to be just the beginning.

A YouTuber discovered this by disassembling two iPhone 12 models and swapping their motherboards. Despite the original parts, the interchange still encountered various errors, which shows that Apple does not seem to want anyone other than the company or authorized repair partners to repair its equipment.

This friend named Hugh Jeffreys ordered two iPhone 12 models. He tried to take out their two motherboards and exchange them. After the operation was successful, he found that the iPhone 12 could not be started unless it was plugged in. After starting, he found that Face ID was disabled, and even resetting Face ID proved to be futile.

Just below the Face ID error notification, there are also screen and battery display errors, and the battery health indicator is disabled. In short, this iPhone 12 believes that its screen and battery have been replaced by non-genuine parts, but in fact it is only because the motherboards of the two phones have been interchanged. This shows that Apple is making the iPhone 12 motherboard and the machine one-to-one correspondence, thereby limiting repairs.

Another problem that arises is that although no camera module has been replaced, the camera is still locked. The blogger stated that several photo and video modes cannot be used, and the application is often locked. Forcing the application to close will not solve the problem.

It seems that Apple has set a very demanding repair verification procedure for the iPhone 12. In addition to looking for official repairs, third-party repairs seem to be difficult to deal with.
